Mfantsipim School’s basketball team will convene at the school to prepare for a friendly game against archrivals St. Augustine’s College at the grand opening of the ultra modern John Evans Atta-Mills Stadium In Cape-Coast on May 3.
The stadium which has been named after former Ghana President Professor John Evans Atta-Mills will be officially opened by President John Mahama, Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye and Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Sun Baohong.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Mfantsipim coach Isaac Mensah expected his charges, who are on vacation, to be present for the scheduled friendly. He said:
“They are to report to school today to prepare for the games because the school is on vacation”
Mfantsipim and St. Augustine’s College headline a strong contingent of senior high schools that will be in action. Reigning High School Champions Aggrey Memorial will compete with likes of Mfantsiman Girls Senior High in the female division.
The clash between the St. Augustine’s and Mfantsipim will be the latest in a long line of epic battles involving the eternal rivals. St. Augustine’s defeated Mfantsipim 37-22 to win the Sprite Ball Championship earlier this year; Mfantsipim is the most successful side in the competition having won the title a record four times.
