The Western Basketball League’s tenure is inconsistent per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com after speaking to Takoradi Polytechnic head coach Owusu Ansah Ankrah.
The coach who led his outfit to place fourth in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship following a 45-48 loss to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Ansah, who credited the league as a major competition in whipping his players into shape ahead of the UPAC Championship, alluded to the league’s inconsistency saying:
“We used to play in the Western Basketball League when it was in section. We play in the community basketball championships whenever the association organizes.”
However, the limited number of games has not prevented the team from keeping in shape. The team plays against a Takoradi select side every Friday.
Takoradi Polytechnic made a major championship statement by winning Zone E in the preliminary round and beating out the likes of Marshalls University College and KNUST to top Group B in the quarter finals.
The team got blown out 41-55 by Accra Polytechnic in the semi finals before suffering another defeat to KNUST.
University of Ghana beat Accra Polytechnic 45-44 in the final to clinch the institution’s first ever UPAC title and will compete in an international tournament later this year.
