University of Ghana’s victorious basketball team met Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye earlier today on the team’s “Thank You Tour” in the aftermath of the team’s triumph in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
Team UG beat defending champions Accra Polytechnic 45-44 in an enthralling game to win the third edition of the UPAC Championship. The team is embarking on the tour as part of its’ post tournament activities.
The Minister who is a former student received the gallant men from his alma mater and went ahead to congratulate them for their massive achievement. He also reiterated his Ministry’s commitment to support the development of basketball in the country.
The entourage, including the institution’s Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu also visited corporate organization associated with this year’s tournament including CAL Bank, Y fm and Fan Milk Ghana producers of Fanyogo.
Team UG will take part in an international competition in South Africa later this year. University of Ghana topped Zone G in the preliminary qualifiers and followed it up with another group topping performance in the quarter finals.
The team beat Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 49-47 before dethroning Accra Polytechnic.
