Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Captain McMartey Lawer has expressed supreme confidence in the team’s chances of rising into the upper echelons of tertiary basketball in Ghana.
He made the statement in an interview with Basketballghana.com following GIMPA’s quarter final exit from the recently organized Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship. He said:
“I’m optimistic about the future. GIMPA Basketball will grow from strength to strength until it achieves its quest of greatness.”
GIMPA got torched by tournament winners University of Ghana 29-53 in the opening game before putting up a better fight in a 33-37 loss to Accra Polytechnic. However the Zone A winners recorded a 44-41 win over debutants Valley View University in the final round of games.
The team failed to progress to the last eight in last year’s edition following a close 20-25 loss to University of Professional Studies in the deciding qualifier.
Both of GIMPA’s quarter final Group A opponents University of Ghana (UG) and Accra Polytechnic made it to the final with UG upstaging the latter’s strangle hold on the national championship trophy.
