Universities of Ghana’s title win in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship didn’t surprise Blue Crest College Coach Kofi Agyemang Kwarteng.
University of Ghana (UG) beat defending champions Accra Polytechnic 45-44 to emerge winners of the third edition of the UPAC Championship. UG’s win halted Accra Polytechnic’s hold on the title after consecutive win s in 2011 and 2015.
“Yes I witnessed most of their evening training sessions because I train my players there as well and I can confess without equivocation that they deserve it” he said. He also singled out UG Coach Meme Falconer for high praise for the team’s achievement describing his input as “great”. Falconer was named Coach of the Tournament.
Kwarteng, a former standout Guard for University of Cape-Coast and University of Professional studies, guided Blue Crest to its maiden appearance in the championship where the team beat Zenith University College but narrowly lost to Accra Polytechnic and Valley View University.
UG capped off an interesting start to the year with last weekend’s win following the team’s capture of the GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) Basketball competition earlier this year.
The team will compete in an invitational tournament in South Africa in the coming months.
