Takoradi Polytechnic Chief Physical Training Instructor Stephen Quansah claims player fatigue was the reason his team was not able to win a medal at the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship as they placed fourth.
The third edition of the Championship’s latter stages were held at Accra Polytechnic and University of Ghana in three days where the latter emerged champions after beating defending champions Accra Polytechnic 45-44 in the final game.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com in the aftermath of his side’s 48-45 loss to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the third place game, Quansah pointed out fatigue as the reason behind the team’s failure to capture a medal in the competition. He said:
“The time they gave for the boys was very short fatigue got the boys tired you can see when we got the third and fourth quarter most of my superstars were down calling for muscle pull and other knocks. That’s what actually brought my team down.”
Takoradi Polytechnic made it into the semi finals by winning Zone E in the preliminary qualifiers and winning Group B in the quarter finals ahead of KNUST despite losing to the latter. Takoradi Polytechnic’s qualification hinged on the team’s superior goal difference to those of fellow contenders KNUST and Marshalls University College.
