Takoradi Polytechnic Forward Daniel Benneh has dismissed any talk of fear of Accra Polytechnic as the two teams prepare to square off in the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The game which will have Ghana’s two leading Polytechnics compete for a spot in the finals of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition is set to take place on Saturday April 16. Takoradi Polytechnic topped Group B in the quarter finals whereas Accra Polytechnic lost out on a top spot in Group A following a 38-46 loss to hosts University of Ghana.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Benneh was confident in his side’s ability to stifle Accra Polytechnic’s threat when the two teams face off. He said:
“No it won’t. We saw the game Accra Poly lost against Legon (University of Ghana) they are going to lose again because they had the chance to beat Legon… We came here to, win the UPAC is ours”.
Takoradi Polytechnic secured top spot in Group B after winning a tie breaker between them, Marshalls University College, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Accra Polytechnic’s unbeaten run spanning nearly two years came crashing down with defeat to University of Ghana in a two way battle for top spot in Group A. KNUST takes on University of Ghana in the other semi final game of the day.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
