Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Takoradi Polytechnic both made it out of Group B of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship quarter finals and into the semis.
Both teams made it into the final by virtue of having superior goal difference than Marshalls University College
who had a similar record like the aforementioned pair. All three teams recorded two wins and a loss.
KNUST placed second in a tricky group that also had Marshalls University College and UENR by beating UENR 63-38 in the opening round before winning a close 49-42 game against Takoradi Polytechnic.
However, T Poly’s massive 91-31 win over University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Marshalls relative slim 46-37 victory margin over KNUST was not enough to top KNUST’s superior goal difference.
The pair competed at this stage in last year’s edition where KNUST outlasted Takoradi Polytechnic to reach the semi finals and eventually the final game before losing to Accra Polytechnic. KNUST repeated the dose in this year’s edition but this time however both teams will compete in the final four.
KNUST will play hosts University of Ghana who topped Group A after defeating Accra Polytechnic. Group B winners Takoradi Polytechnic will take on Group A second placed team Accra Polytechnic on Saturday April 16.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
