The latest round of qualifiers of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to tipoff at the University of Ghana in Zone G. The third edition of the Championship will feature four institutions battle for the zone’s top spot.
Hosts University of Ghana (UG) will take on Wisconsin University College, Marshalls University College and Central University College for the chance to play in the quarter finals of the UPAC Championship; the Championship is widely considered the biggest tertiary basketball competition in Ghana.
Leading up to tipoff, GUSA (Ghana University Sports Association) Basketball Champions, (UG) will take on PUSAG (Private Universities Students Association Games) Basketball Champions, Marshalls in a headline game.
Zone G, described by Central University Captain Sidney Larbie as the “group of death”, has a strong element of familiarity as all four teams were drawn in the same zone for last year’s edition. Then debutants, Marshalls University produced a series of stunning wins to qualify out of the zone. Marshalls placed fourth in the competition.
Zone A’s outstanding game between Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Pentecost University College will also be played.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports.
