Central University College will likely miss two members of the team’s starting line-up in Zone G qualifiers of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship which takes place at the University of Ghana on Friday April 8.
The team will be in the hunt for top spot in the zone alongside hosts University of Ghana (UG), Wisconsin University College and Marshalls University College. Winner of the zone will qualify automatically to the quarter finals of the Championship.
According to team captain Sidney Larbie, Center Prince Wuni and Guard Aaron Dinku are both in a tight race to be fit ahead of the qualifiers on Friday. Wuni is yet to fully recover from an injury and Dinku as at the time of reporting, was ill.
Both players were played starring roles for Central University in the ninth edition of the Private Universities Students Association Games (PUSAG) Basketball competition where the team made the quarter finals before exiting after an 18-21 loss to Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Accra).
However, should Central miss out on the zone’s top spot, it stands a chance of sneaking into the last eight as the best second place team between Zones A,F and G. The best second placed team will join seven other zone winners to complete the list of quarter finalists.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports.
