Accra Polytechnic starting Center Suleman Abubakar has expressed his profound joy after winning the Most Valuable Player of Zone F qualifiers and helping his team progress to the next round of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The highly rated defender played an instrumental role in Accra Polytechnic’s unbeaten run in the zone en route to qualifying for the quarter finals of the Championship which takes place at the University of Ghana on April 14.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com after scooping the prestigious award, Abubakar also praised his teammates for their tremendous support. He said:
“I am very happy not only about the MVP but about the whole show and am happy we have qualified for the (quarter) finals. It was a bit tough but I think we will work on that and make the finals really a final.”
Abubakar played a crucial role in anchoring Accra Polytechnic’s defence and offense particularly in the final game against Blue Crest College where team leader and Shooting Guard Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan got ejected early. H e averaged 9.6 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game respectively.
Accra Poly will be hoping for a much improved performance heading into the quarter finals where the team will face the likes of University of Development Studies-Tamale and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
