Valley View’s debut appearance in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship ended on a winning note following a 37-31 win over Zenith University College in the third round of preliminary qualifying games in Zone F.
Both teams were paired in the zone alongside hosts and defending champions Accra Polytechnic and Blue Crest College in third edition of a competition widely accepted as the best tertiary basketball competition in Ghana.
Valley View played with a lot of heart and determination and did well cut to out overreacting to missed shots and bad calls from officials which plagued the team in its’ first game against Accra Polytechnic. Carrying the winning momentum from its previous game against Blue Crest, Valley View came out strongly in the early quarters and unsurprisingly led for most part of the game.
However, Zenith University who had earlier lost two straight games, found the shooting touch it had missed in the competition to breathe life into their miserable campaign by converting crucial buckets to tie the game at the end of regulation time and send the game to overtime. Valley View had more in the offensive tank to breeze past Zenith for a well deserved victory.
Valley View will have to wait for results from Accra Polytechnic’s game against Blue Crest to know its’ fate. On the other hand, Blue Crest will have to beat Accra Polytechnic by a huge margin to qualify for the next round of the competition.
