Valley View University (VVU) isn’t leaving anything to chance ahead of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Zone F qualifiers which will take place at Accra Polytechnic on Friday April 1.
The institution’s male basketball team will take on defending and two-time UPAC Champions; Accra Polytechnic on the latter’s home court. VVU will also compete against Zenith University College and Blue Crest University College as it seeks for a spot in the last eight of the competition which is headlined by leading deodorant maker Rexona.
The team recently rounded up major preparations for the championship by participating in the Private Universities Students Association Games (PUSAG) Basketball competition. It made it out of the group stage but got eliminated in the quarter final by eventual champions Marshalls University College who too will compete in the UPAC Championship early next month.
In an interview with Basketballghana.com, VVU coach Bright Otu-Masi said,” We haven’t had rest since we got back from PUSAG, we still training harder. Asked on how his team plans on taking down defending champions Accra Polytechnic, he said:
Aside hosts Accra Polytechnic; VVU holds an advantage of familiarity over the rest of the field having played at what is an intimidating court for visiting teams. In a warm up game in February, prior to the official start of the championship, Valley View lost 21-27 to University of Professional Studies.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by MTN, Fanyogo and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, Y FM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
