Marshalls University College headlined a list of teams that participated in the just ended Private Universities Students Association (PUSAG) Games which will make their respective debuts in the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The reigning PUSAG Basketball Champions will compete in Ghana’s grandest tertiary basketball competition for the first time this year alongside Valley View University, Central, Wisconsin and Zenith University Colleges’ respectively in coming weeks.
Zenith and Valley View will be in action on Friday April 1 against Blue Crest College and Accra Polytechnic in Zone F. Central, Wisconsin and Marshalls will play Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Basketball Champions, University of Ghana on April 8 in Zone G.
However, Zenith and Wisconsin surprisingly failed to make it out of relatively easy groups in the PUSAG tournament. In Group B, Regent University College qualified to the quarterfinals at the expense of Wisconsin and Islamic University College.
In Group G, Evangelical Presbyterian University College and Kings University College made it into the last eight at Ghana Christian University College and 2015 PUSAG champions Zenith’s expense.
Valley View got bundled out of the tournament by eventual champions Marshalls and Central University College placed third ahead of Regent University College. Marshalls University beat Radford University College 44-42 in the final.
The third edition of UPAC is headlined by leading deodorant maker Rexona and already has University of Development Studies-Tamale, University of Energy and Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Takoradi Polytechnic book spots in the quarter finals.
