Zenith University College have been atrocious in preparatory games prior to the start of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship where the institution will be in action on Friday April 1 at Accra Polytechnic.
The institution’s heralded basketball team exited the basketball event of the Private Universities Students Association (PUSAG) Games which is taking place at the El-Wak Stadium.
The team surprisingly lost out on a quarter final place to little known Evangelical Presbyterian University College and Kings University College in Group G. As defending champions, courtesy a win over Pentecost University College in last year’s final, Zenith was tipped as odds-on favourites to qualify out of a group that consisted of minnows including Ghana Christian University College.
With just days left before taking on the herculean task of qualifying ahead of two- time and defending UPAC Champions Accra Polytechnic, Zenith will have to get their acts together quickly before another early exit hits the team. Blue Crest University College and Valley View University will compete in Zone F as well.
Losing finalists in last year’s edition, Pentecost University College, also exited the competition as Radford University College qualified at their expense.
The UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, Fanyogo and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, Y FM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
