The die has been cast and it’s now official. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology will battle rivals Kumasi Polytechnic for a place in the finals of the 2016 Rexona UPAC Basketball Championship.
KNUST continued their devastating form by racking 54-26 past Ghana Technology University College to set up tense final against their bitterest rivals in Kumasi.
Star men Emmanuel Ekow Amoako, Edem Dompeh and Kwame Akrasi were again at the centre of an epic performance against the debutants.
They showed little mercy with their free flowing and attacking play in front of a hostile crowd.
In the end they proved too strong for their less-fancied opponent by recording an expected and routine heavy win over them.
Their win has set a perfect tonic for a big final involving two of the finest institutions in the Garden City to slug it out for a place in the national final next month.
Highly-respected Kumasi Polytechnic coach Emmanuel Wobil is an experienced trainer who could pull a fast one on his relatively younger opposition.
It will be a battle of class and experience amid a hostile crowd expected to greet KNUST.
The Ashanti brand has been vociferous in their support for the home team but remains to be seen if their chants will have any significant impact in the final analysis.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, YFM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
