Ghana Technical University College-Kumasi basketball team beat Chiefs Basketball Club 30-24 yesterday in a friendly game prior to the start of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
Qualifiers for the 2016 UPAC Championship, headlined by Rexona, continues on Saturday March 19 in Ashanti Region’s capital, Kumasi. Host Kumasi Polytechnic will host Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST),
Garden City University College and Ghana Technology University College (GTUC).
The game was the last game of the institution ahead of Zone D qualifiers. The team fell behind in the first half after several turnovers led to easy baskets for the local side. However, GTUC clawed their way back into the game to take a decisive lead to close the game.
Sports Chairman of the institution, Derrick Okuadjo was delighted with the team’s performance and believes the win is the best way to round up preparations for the Championship.
Winner of the Zone will qualify for the quarter finals of the competition which will take place at the University of Ghana on April 14.University of Development Studies and University of Energy and Natural Resources have secured qualification to the next stage by winning Zones B and C respectively.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, YFM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
