Garden City University College basketball team representative Ishmael Ayiwole is confident his side will impress opposing teams and fans alike at the Kumasi Polytechnic basketball court in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

The 2016 edition of the Championship is headlined by Rexona and Zone D qualifiers will come on March 19 with Kumasi Polytechnic hosting Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Garden City University College and Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Kumasi).

The enterprising representative made the comments in an interview with Basketballghana.com. He said, “I think it’s going to be very competitive and we will play good basketball. We are really coming into the game with much strength as compared to last year and we are sure of making to Accra.”

All four institutions will battle for the zone’s top spot which guarantees the team a spot in the last eight of the competition and join University of Development Studies and University of Energy and Natural Resources as the remaining qualifiers will be completed in subsequent weeks.

The quarter final, semi final and final games of the competition will be played at the University of Ghana between April 14 and April 16. Accra Polytechnic is the defending champions and two time winners of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Bsketballghana.com, TV3, YFM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
