Zenith University College basketball team is not worried despite giving up a massive lead to lose 20-25 to Marshalls University College in a warm up game for the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship according to Forward Ekow Abaidor.
The third edition of the championship, headlined by premier deodorant brand Rexona, will take place between March 5 and April 16 where 28 tertiary institutions will compete for the chance to win Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball trophy.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, he said:
We don’t feel down, we came to have fun and we nearly won. If it wasn’t for Okoe, we almost won. Some of our guys are up and coming so we have to take our time and our three’s weren’t falling so we did everything we could.”
“We will make an impression. People thought Marshalls will run over us but we showed them that we can also play.”
Zenith University held a massive 17-4 lead heading into the second half but consecutive three point makes from Daniel Okoe Laryea got Marshalls back in the game and start a late scoring to cruise to victory.
Marshalls University College will play University of Ghana, Wisconsin University College and Central University College in Zone G come March 8.
On the other hand, Zenith University will play defending champions Accra Polytechnic, Valley View University and Blue Crest College in Zone F on April 1.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports.
