National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency Delali Kwesi Brempong has reiterated the need for the youth to engage in physical activities as a way of preventing health complications.
He made the statement at the official launch of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges(UPAC) Basketball Championship which is set to take place between March 5 and April 16. The Championship is Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament and is headlined by premier deodorant brand Rexona.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com after the launch, which he described as “excellent”, the soft spoken leader who earlier pledged set of jerseys to the final four teams in the tournament, was very conscious about how far sports participation can improve the health of Ghanaian youth.
“They-the youth-should not stop physical activity because it’s a life long thing and promotes good health especially to combat non-communicable diseases. If you are physically active, you are less likely to get infections and to be overweight so its important for the youth to be physically active” he said.
“I pick UG-University of Ghana and GIMPA-Ghana Institute of Management Public Administration” he responded when asked on which team was his pick for the title.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with media outlets including Y FM,Basketballghana.com, TV3 and Ghana Sports.
