Reno Bighorns have acquired former Phoenix Suns Forward/Center Gani Lawal from the Westchester Knicks in a trade today. Reno, Sacramento Kings NBA D-League affiliate will also receive the Knicks 2016 4th round draft pick as part of the deal.
In return, the Knicks get returning player rights to Ra’shad James and Reno’s 2016 6th round pick. The 6 foot one inch Guard went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft and has featured for Portland Trail blazers and Sacramento Kings Summer League teams respectively.
Lawal, a 6 foot 9 inch Nigerian international was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 16th pick in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft following a successful three year stay at Georgia Tech where he averaged 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
In 17 games played this season, Gani averaged 8.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for New York Knicks D-League affiliate. Lawal, represented Nigeria at the 2013 FIBA African Championship where the D’Tigers finished seventh following a 105-87 win over Morocco.
