Second year Ghanaian Forward Ben Bentil scored 17 points in 37 minutes as Providence University lost 74-85 to Xavier University earlier today at the Cintas Center, Cincinnati.
The loss to Xavier condemns the Friars to their fourth loss in five games as they head into the final stretch of the regular season with four games remaining.
Bentil also registered six rebounds, a steal and a block as he inefficiently converted just 5 of 14 shots from the field and 2 of 6 shots from three point range respectively. Bentil is yet to fully recover from ankle injury he sustained some weeks earlier.
The key point in the game happened with 10 minutes remaining as Xavier went on a 15-1 run which saw them take a 69-48 lead. Guard Myles Davis of Xavier registered a 11 point, 12 assist, 12 rebound triple double in the win.
Bentil is averaging 20.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season.
Providence Guard Kris Dunn scored a joint game-high 23 points. Providence’s bad run of form has seen the team slide to 23 on the standings whereas Xavier check in eight place.
Providence will be in action on Thursday February 25 when they play at Seton Hall. Xavier will play Georgetown on Saturday February 20.
