Takoradi Polytechnic is the most recognized basketball hub in Ghana’s Western Region and ahead of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, its’ team will be looked upon to bring glory to the region.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by the world’s best selling deodorant, Rexona and supported by CAL Bank. The third edition of the prestigious tournament will take place from March 5-April 16 with warm up games scheduled prior to the commencement of the Championship.
Takoradi Polytechnic has fared quite well in the tournament dating back to the inaugural edition where the team qualified out of the Western and Central Region Zone which included the likes of University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Education and Cape-Coast Polytechnic.
In last year’s edition, the team was placed in the proverbial “Group of Death” where it was pitched against 2011 winners Accra Polytechnic, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Zenith University College following a 24-22 win over UCC in the preliminary round.
The 2015 Ghana Polytechnic Students Association (GHAPSA) Games silver medalist ought to viewed with caution as it looks forward to taking another steady climb up the steps to hoops greatness.
The Rexona 2016 UPAC Championship will have 28 tertiary institutions drawn from all ten regions in Ghana participate for the ultimate title during the 10 week long tourney and will include media outlets TV3, Starr FM and Basketballghana.com and Graphic Sports.
