Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship will take place from February to April as 28 institutions battle for ultimate glory.
This year’s tournament which happens to be the third edition is headlined by best selling deodorant brand Rexona and the Central University College will be one of the top tier institutions to contest the title.
The tertiary institute’s basketball team made its’ debut in the competition last year as they were housed in Greater Accra’s Zone 3 with University of Ghana (UG) and fellow novices Wisconsin University College and Marshalls University College.
However, their debut will be most remembered for its’ corroboration with UG in filing a protest against Marshalls University for fielding an unqualified player during last year’s competition.
Sadly, the protest shrouded the team’s impressive wins over Marshalls University and Wisconsin University with a point difference of +2 which fell short of UG’s point difference of +10 and Marshalls +18.
The institution looks set to continue its’ winning ways as they head into the upcoming tourney.
The 2016 UPAC Basketball Championship is set to take place between March 5 and April 16 and is sponsored by the world’s best selling deodorant brand Rexona and supported by CAL Bank in partnership with media outlets including TV3, Starr FM and Basketballghana.com and Graphic Sports.
