The 2016 Rexona Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to take place between March 5 and April 16. Conversely, a series of warm up games for participating schools to fine tune their skills will precede the much awaited tournament.
Counting down to tip off later this month, Basketballghana.com takes a look at Marshalls University College’s chances of causing another stir in this year’s championship.
Marshalls University made its’ debut in the competition last year and made it a massive achievement to cherish by running out with the fourth place position following a shock win over much fancied University of Ghana (UG) side.
The Accra Zone 3 side saw off competition from UG and Wisconsin University College by winning 32-26 and 42-27 respectively to qualify second behind Central University College. The school which has enamored itself to many hoops stars after rolling out a grand scholarship scheme that has enabled talented players to get enrolled at the institution.
Tactical supremo James Okine’s return to the sidelines is up and running as he sounded a strong warning to his opponents in a previous interview when he stated “We are going to sweep every team in this year’s competition”.
The team boasts of talented players like Chiefs Basketball Academy product Lovelace Boakye Yiadom and 2015 Sprite Ball Most Valuable Player Mishael Jamani Salifu who has progressed gracefully into the tertiary game after impressing at the senior high school level with Mfantsipim School.
