Marshalls University College basketball head coach James Okine has made a bold declaration by stating his team has no peers in the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The 2016 Championship, set to take place between March 5 and April 16 will be the third edition of the event tailor-made for tertiary institutions.
When Basketballghana.com visited Marshalls at Jamestown where the team was engaged in physical drills ahead of the competition, the young enterprising coach said:
“You can’t compare Marshalls with any team in Ghana now in terms of college basketball because we focus on basic things that makes us better. Last year, we came in as underdogs and we placed fourth. This year we are coming i very hard, we are well prepared, well equipped to win the tournament.”
Marshalls University College stunned many by placing fourth in last year’s edition as Accra Polytechnic beat Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 57-40 to win a second consecutive title.
Originally known as Universities and Colleges Basketball Championship, UPAC was created to extend basketball’s growing stature in Ghana to tertiary institutions back in 2011.
