Marshalls University College basketball coach James Okine has described University of Ghana (UG) basketball team as serious contenders ahead of the 2016 University, Polytechnics and Colleges Basketball Championship set to take place between February 27 and April 16.

The astute tactician who guided Marshalls to an unlikely bronze medal scoop in the last edition picked UG out of a strong field including reigning champions Accra Polytechnic following UG’s triumph in male basketball at the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games earlier this month.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com, he said:

“What Legon is doing right now is something that we have to be very serious about because last year we did some things we beat Legon and they have recruited some quality players but Marshalls we are working hard to come back and we are working hard to make everything work out for us.”

The 2016 UPAC Basketball Championship will feature 28 University, Colleges and Tertiary institutions drafted from eight of Ghana’s ten regions compete for top honours.
