University of Connecticut (UCONN) Center Amida Brimah’s broken finger is healing faster than expected and he is on pace to make an appearance after six weeks according to team officials.
The 7 foot Ghanaian was scheduled to be out 6-8 weeks following surgery after breaking his right middle finger in practice after sitting out of UCONN’s game against University of Massachusetts-Lowell a day before due to testicular contusion.
Due to his quicker than expected recovery time, a return to action against University of Memphis on February 4 looks very likely.
UCONN coach Kevin Ollie has described Brimah as the team’s “heartbeat” and is confident his defensive linchpin will return ready to play.
“The kid is running stairs through the whole shoot-around. I go for a full hour and he’s still running so I know he’s going to be in condition” he said.
Before injuring his finger in December, Brimah was ranked ninth in the U.S. with 3.0 blocks per game.
