The University of Ghana (UG) male basketball team claimed a deserved gold medal following a 65-49 win over the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in the GUSA Games.

The 24th edition of the Ghana University Sports Association Games is a bi-annual event organized to discover and celebrate talented athletes in some of distinguished Ghana’s tertiary institutions.

Both sides went into the final game with no losses as they laid waste to the rest of a competitive field that included Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape-Coast and University of Mines and Technology.

However, it was UG who had their wits about them from start to finish as they maintained the game’s lead from start to finish. The team exhibited great defense and calm demeanor; a far cry from that showed from UPSA.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com after the win, UG head coach Meme Falconer said:

” I feel quite very elated this is what we’ve worked so hard for”.

He later stated “hard work”, “stamina” and “endurance” as the key components to his side’s flawless run to the trophy.

The University of Cape-Coast claimed bronze at the expense of University of Development Studies earlier in the day.
