Ghana’s biggest basketball prize, the Sprite Ball trophy, will be contested for by 26 schools between January 5-7 at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Ashanti Region representatives have been involved in series of friendly games in light of the stern competition they will face in the tournament.
In the boys’ division, two time bronze medalist Opoku Ware School yesterday beat the Ghana Armed Forces Ashanti Region Barracks team 51-50. The school beat Patase Invaders 84-58 but lost to KNUST 59-80 in other friendlies.
Prempeh College lost to the Armed Forces team 87-90 as they prepare to face Pope John Senior High, St. John’s School and Adisadel College in Group B.
Opoku Ware School is in Group C with St. Thomas Aquinas, Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion and GSTS.
In the girls’ division, KNUST’s female team inflicted a 29-27 defeat on two-time champions T.I.Ahmediyya Senior High School in friendly game played yesterday.
