Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s male basketball team handed Opoku Ware School an 80-59 defeat in a friendly game played in Kumasi.
The tertiary team showed their superior class as they romped to an early lead on the back of sweet shooting from the three-point line. OWASS just couldn’t keep their stronger and faster opponents in check throughout the entire game.
The game formed part of OWASS preparations for the upcoming Sprite Ball Championship due to be held between January 3-7, 2016. KNUST are in camp preparing for next year’s Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games.
Despite the massive defeat, coach Alexander “KT” Obeng Takyi was satisfied with the output of his team.
“My boys really played one of their best game ever irrespective of the scoreline” “We played against arguably the No. 2 ranked team in Ghana” he said.
Opoku Ware School is in Group C alongside Ghana Secondary Technical School, St Thomas Aquinas Senior School and Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School for the 2016 Sprite Ball Championship.
In their first friendly against local side Patase Invaders, OWASS won 84-58.
