spritelogoSprite Ball 2016 Ashanti regional representatives Opoku Ware, have stepped up preparations for next year’s edition set to take place between January 3-7 at El-Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The regional champions having already secured a spot in the nation’s biggest basketball tournament, have outlined moves to give “Akatakyie” the best chance of claiming a long awaited trophy.

Sprite Ball Championship, an annual inter-High Schools basketball tournament in Ghana aimed at developing basketball talents in Ghana.

Speaking with Basketballghana.com, coach Alexander Obeng Takyi singled out his team’s desire to get over the hump of consecutive semi final losses.

He said players in camp have been put through the paces twice a day to improve their general conditioning over the weekend.

He added the team will begin working on offensive and defensive drills respectively in the coming days as preparation for a friendly scrimmage with a yet to be named team on Wednesday.

Coach Obeng or “KT” as he is affectionately called, could not hide his delight about the level of quality his team possesses particularly Emmanuel Owuraku Agyapong who according to the enterprising young coach is the talk of basketball in Kumasi.

He also made mention of hold overs from last year’s bronze winning team including Emmanuel Opare and Harris Awudu.
