Selected Senior High schools in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region hosted the 2016 Sprite Ball Trophy tour entourage on their respective campuses as part of activities to whip up interest for the upcoming tournament which comes off at the El-Wak Stadium.
Accra Wesley Girls High School, Labone Senior High School and Accra Academy also had the privilege of getting intimate moments with the country’s most coveted basketball trophy.
The trophy tour is one of many events connected to the ninth edition of the Sprite Ball championship which takes place between January 3-7 next year. Since its inception in 2007, the Rite Sports organized competition has developed into one of the most sought after basketball events in West Africa.
The tour entourage made its first stop at Labone Senior High School. The presence of the trophy sparked life into the otherwise quiet campus as male and female students rushed to catch a glimpse of the trophy. Most students were glad to have the trophy on their campus since the school is yet to become a national champion.
The tour bus continued its journey to the all-female Accra Wesley Girl’s High School who are set to make their first ever appearance at the games. Come January, the latest contender in the female division will have the chance to lay their hands on the trophy but were pleasantly surprised as the trophy was planted in the heart of the school.
The ladies took the opportunity to take pictures with the trophy and professed their excitement about their set debut in the competition.
Accra Academy was the last school visited by the entourage to close out the Greater Accra leg of the tour. In typical buoyant fashion, the “Bl33oo))” boys sang jama songs serenading the competition and the school’s impressive qualification to the championship.
The trophy tour will head to the Eastern Region next.
