The Washington Wizards’ season is not off to a great start. In what was supposed to be a transforming, faster, more dangerous attack for the Wizards as they embraced a faster pace and more of a small ball-identity, the team hasn’t come close to finding a consistent groove. Now an all-too familiar-injury is hitting their second-best player.
The team announced on Saturday that Bradley Beal has been diagnosed with “the beginnings of a stress reaction in his lower right fibula” and is out for the next two weeks. After two weeks, he’ll be re-evaluated and hopefully he can return to action. They discovered the start of the stress reaction during an MRI on Friday. From the Wizards:
Wizards guard Bradley Beal has been diagnosed with the beginnings of a stress reaction in his lower right fibula. He will miss the next two weeks and then be re-evaluated. The injury was initially diagnosed following an MRI yesterday and confirmed today after further testing.
That marks four seasons in the NBA for Beal and four seasons in which he’s dealt with some sort of fibula injury. Beal played in just five of the final 24 games for the Wizards during his rookie season due to a stress injury in his right fibula. He missed about three weeks in his second season with a re-injuring of that right fibula.
He missed time last season with a toe injury and with another stress reaction in his right fibula. Now he’s about to miss another two weeks, at minimum. While the the Wizards have struggled, Beal is off to the best individual season of his career, averaging a career-high 19.8 points per game on 43.8 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from 3-point range.
The Wizards are currently 11th in the East with a 9-12 record.
