rushBenjamin Debrah of the Osu Hawks has been named the player of the week at the Rush Community Basketball Tournament after his wonderful output against the Cape Coast Bears sealed his teams’s qualification to the semi finals.

In the game against Cape Coast that the Hawks won 89-85, Number 6 recorded a stellar stat line of 34 points, seven rebounds and two assists. He also chipped in pretty impressive numbers at the defensive end where he made four steals and two blocks respectively.

The undefeated Osu Hawks fell behind early but managed to claw their way back from a four deficit to trade leads with the Bears after the first half. In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Benjamin Debrah gave Osu a 74-73 lead by converting a layup off a steal.

He and teammate Mohammed Yakubu- a former player of the week winner- combined for five straight points down the stretch to see off the challenge from Cape Coast.

Debrah’s award marks the third time a player from the Osu Hawks has been named player of the week in the tournament; Emmanuel Dickson and Mohammed Yakubu are the other winners.

The Osu Hawks are yet to suffer defeat in the tournament after four rounds and head into the semi finals as favorites for the title.

The Ashaiman Tigers, Tudu Warriors and Tema Sharks will join the Hawks to battle for the ultimate prize of $3000 on December 20 at the Accra Polytechnic court.
