The Nima Vipers made a final bow by annhailating the Dansoman Wolves on “Interception Day” at the Rush Community Basketball Tournament.
By defeating the Wolves 75-42, the Vipers recorded their second win of the tournament. However, they failed to live up to their tag as title favorites after failing to qualify for the semi finals.
That honor went to Tema Sharks and Tudu Warriors who qualified as Group A winners respectively.
The Vipers, despite fielding an elite group including 2015 Most Valuable Player Alhassan Mutalib, finished third with six points behind the aforementioned pair following two losses against the Korle-Bu Kings and Tudu Warriors who recorded 7 points apiece.
Playing in the presence of the cast of Interception- Ghana’s latest action movie that is set to premier through the upcoming weekend in Accra-the Dansoman Wolves exited the tournament having lost all four matches.
Small Forward Farahat Tamimu paced Nima and the entire game with 27 points. Alhassan and Guard Richard Afedi chipped in 13 points apiece with the former also recording a game high four blocks.
Dansoman scored the game’s first points in a strong opening two minutes where they held Nima to zero points before Farahat sank a jumper. Wolves Point Guard Charles Kyeremanten buried a three pointer to give Dansoman a 17-14 lead to close out the first quarter.
However, things turned sour for Dansoman as their frailities from previous matches resurfaced again in the second quarter. The Wolves did not move the ball well that made it easy for Nima to sucessfully employ double teams. The lack of space led to bad shots being tossed up from Dansoman.
Nima gained the game’s lead for the first time after Nicholas Achimboye drained a long three point shot before National MVP Alhassan got things done on the defensive end by blocking Dansoman’s Charles Ahiato’s shot. At half time, the score stood 38-18 in Nima’s advantage.
The game’s momentum did not change as the Vipers continued to capitalize on Dansoman’s woeful shooting including Andre Adom’s layup miss from point blank range.
The game ended as a contest long before the final whistle as Nima upped the lead to 53-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
