Hawks’ Guard Benjamin Debrah romped his way to a team high 34 points to condemn the Cape Coast Bears to an 89-85 defeat.
The Hawks made it four wins out of four games in the tournament to progress to the semi-finals of the Rush Community Basketball League on Sunday at the Accra Polytechnic court.
The win cemented the Hawks position atop Group B with eight points. The Ashaiman Tigers came second with seven points after registering three wins from four games.
Knowing they had already exited the tournament, the Cape Coast Bears started out on a positive note by taking a four point lead heading into the second quarter on the back of six straight points from Point Guard Benjamin Sagoe.
Both teams traded leads during spells of the second quarter as Osu started showing signs why they were undefeated before taking a 74-73 lead courtesy Benjamin Debrah’s layup after a steal to end the third quarter.
The Bears’ Alfred Davis shared the third quarter spotlight with the Osu Guard as he buried three consecutive three point shots to keep affairs interesting.
After looking lethargic for most parts of the game, Osu turned on the after burners in the final quarter as Mohammed Yakubu’s transition point and Debrah’s three pointer ensured the Hawks survived Cape Coast’s challenge.
“It shows how prepared we are for the finals” Debrah said of his team’s unbeaten run in an interview with basketballghana.com.
Andy Edzie scored four straight points to give Cape Coast Bears a 27-25 lead before Debrah pump faked and scored on a drive to cut Cape Coast’s lead to two.
Felix Abagi scored off a fastbreak to begin proceedings in the second quarter. Ransford Nickens scored a jumper on his way to registering a team high 20 points for the Cape Coast Bears as they regained the lead.
Hawks’ Nii Koi Kotey scored after beautifully exchanging passes with Round 5 Player of the Week Emmanuel Dickson in the paint.Dickson who doubles as a Police Officer put in a low key perfromance as he recorded 13 points and five assists.
