The Memphis Grizzlies got the better of the Minnesota Timberwolves 114-106 to clinch their 5th win of the season having stuttered in their start to the new campaign.
The Grizzlies went into their clash with the Timberwolves looking for that fifth win having started their campaign 4-6. It hadn’t been a great start to the 2015-2016 season having come off the back of a successful campaign last season where they made it to the Western Conference semifinals.
It was a superb team effort from the Grizzlies as Mike Conley, Jeff Green, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol all scored points. Conley top-scored for his team with 20 points and he had 7 assists, but he was assisted by the contributions of Randolph, who had 14 points and 8 rebounds and Gasol who added 16 points and 7 boards . The Spaniard Gasol, matched-up against the Rookie Karl-Anthony Towns, added 4 assists and 2 blocks to his stat line.
The Timberwolves had made a similar start to their season having won four and lost five. They’ve relied heavily on their young first team who’ve shown glimpses of just how promising the set up in Minnesota is. Towns has been massive in his rookie season, he scored 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds as he showed he could handle himself against the pros, on a few occasions getting the better of Gasol in the paint.
The star for the T-Wolves was Zach Lavine who’s been hugely impressive as Ricky Rubio has missed out through injury. He’s developing into a high level point guard, he ended the night with 25 points, a game high. Andrew Wiggins provided superb support with 21 points.
