Miami Heat guard Gerald Green, the 2007 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion, was hospitalized on Wednesday for unspecified reasons, the team said.
The 29-year-old American, in his 10th NBA campaign, sat out last night’s 98-82 loss to Atlanta with an illness.
“This morning we were informed that Gerald Green was admitted into the hospital,” the team said in a statement. “Right now our concerns are with Gerald and we have no further comment at this time.”
According to the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, Heat teammate Mario Chalmers, who lives nearby, was with Green when an ambulance transported Green to the hospital.
Green has averaged 10.3 points in three games with the Heat after signing a one-year deal with the club last July.
The Heat, 2-2 and 1 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the Southeast division, did not practice Wednesday and do not play again until Thursday at Minnesota.
