Founder of Giants of Africa Masai Ujiri, has hailed the Ghana leg of its four-nation basketball camp tour as one of the best and most exciting camps, and cannot wait to return for the next edition.
Ujiri, who led a team of GOA basketball experts and coaches to hold a three-day camp for 50 selected kids from across this country over the weekend, noted that Ghana abounds in great basketball talents and if given the needed attention, backed by good coaches and very good facilities, the nation can become a huge force to reckon with when it comes to basketball on the continent and to a larger extent the world.
“This is the second leg of our four-nation African tour and am deeply enthralled by the level of participation and the high level of knowledge displayed by the young ones here in Ghana,” he stated.
Ujiri, who doubles as General Manager of Canada-based NBA side, Toronto Raptors, revealed on TV3’s Fast Break that looking at the level of enthusiasm for the game here, he would be happy to see an NBA game played in Africa, precisely Ghana as that will be a big breakthrough in the efforts to promote the game here on the continent, but for that to happen Ghana must build and improve facilities to meet the very best standards of the modern game.
The 12th edition of the GOA camp and the first in Ghana, brought together top coaches from across the country to help run on-court basketball skills development sessions designed to help young basketball players develop athletically, achieve life goals and become better players as well as strive to help participants to get life skills support and local community outreach initiatives.
The three-day camp ended with an all-star game on Saturday and a visit by the GOA team to the SOS Hermann Mainer International College in Tema where some charity projects were executed.
