The Accra Polytechnic campus was a scene of enchantments after the 2015 UPAC Basketball Champions presented their trophy to the Rector Prof. Sylvester Achio.

The main auditorium was washed with many trophies which were won by the institution in the recently ended GHAPSA games in Kumasi.

The country’s Premier Polytechnic retain their title in the UPAC Basketball Championship after a riveting final quarter helped them to sweep past Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology at the centre court of the University of Ghana last Saturday.

That feat followed their victory in the GHAPSA games in both the men and women’s division respectively.

The Accra-based hub also dominated the other disciplines during the GHAPSA tournament, bagging 28 medals to emerge winners.

Addressing the highly motivated students on Tuesday evening, the head of the technical team, Princeworth Anane assured the Rector that the teams and players would continue to work hard with determination to bring more laurels in the upcoming West African Polytechnic Games Association (WAPOGA) Games to be hosted by the institution from July 22 to August 1 this year.

 

20Receiving the trophies, Prof. Sylvester Achio on behalf of the Council and Management commended the teams and players for their high spirits, discipline and teamwork and he urged them to continue to sustain such attitudes, adding that they had done not only themselves but also the entire Polytechnic community proud by placing first on the overall medal table.

The Rector expressed the optimism that the teams and the technical handlers will not go to sleep but will continue to work hard and repeat their sterling performance in the WAPOGA games to be held in Accra later this year.

He also assured the team that Management in consultation with Council will appropriately reward all the players and athletes in due time.

Chief Executive of Rite Multimedia (organisers of the UPAC Basketball Championship), Yaw Sakyi Afari commended the A-Poly team for their sterling performance and urged them to maintain their top form.

He was particularly impressed with the level of interest and commitment shown by authorities, predicting they will dominate the game in the West African country for a longer period.

Captain of the basketball team Romeo Wilfred Enan presented the trophy to the Rector, drawing deafening cheers from their colleagues gathered in the auditorium.
