The train of the 2015 UPAC Basketball Championship stops at the Accra Polytechnic court on Thursday when the Greater Accra zone two teams take their turn in the fast-rising competition.
Accra Polytechnic host Ghana Telecommunication University College and Zenith University College in an enthralling contest.
By every stretch of imagination, it will be a stroll in the park for Accra Polytechnic, who are the defending champions but must guard against complacency to avoid being surprised.
Ghana Telecomm and Zenith could pose big threat to their ambitions following their recent surge in form.
For instance, Zenith showcased their potential during the warm-up games on March 7 where they white-washed Pentecost University in a one-sided contest. They boast of an array of many Nigerian emerging talents who can pull a fast one on the host.
Ghana Telecommunication University will heavily rely on their captain Charles Annan to deliver them the much-needed ticket to the final.
Annan, a former captain of Armed Forces, led his team to win the famous Sprite Ball Championship in 2009. The bulky point guard has improved tremendously in all aspect of his game and will be a real threat to the other teams.
An expected crowd will swam the Accra Polytechnic venue to catch a glimpse of some of the country’s finest basketball talents on display which will be streamed LIVE on Basketballghana.com
Basketball is fast developing in Ghana and the tertiary level competition has brought some sense of optimism for the future of the sport in the West African country.
Five institutions – University of Cape Coast, Kwame Nkrumah University of Professional Studies, University of Professional Studies, Takoradi Polytechnic and Kumasi Polytechnic have already secured passage to the next stage of the competition.
Only one institution in the Greater Accra zone two will qualify for the final which takes place from April 23-25, 2015 at the University of Ghana main basketball court.
