Ghanaian Senior High Schools Mfantsipim and TI Ahmadiyya are soliciting for funds to enable their basketball teams travel to South Africa for an educational and basketball programme.

The two schools won the famous Sprite Ball Championship in January this year and have set a plan in motion to send the entire team to Johannesburg.

Title sponsors Sprite, are expected to foot the travelling arrangements of the winning coaches, captains, MVP’s and a member of the winning squad in both the boys and girls division.

The kind gesture has prompted officials of the two schools to solicit for funds for the other members to join the selected players and officials.

Both Mfantsipim and TI Amass are counting on their Old Boys and Girls Association to come to their aid to facilitate their travel.

Mfantsipim boast of an array of influential individuals who are past students of the school including Ghana’s vice-president Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur among other high ranking officials both in government, public and private institutions.

“I would like to appeal to our old boys to come to our aid. We need funds to send these boys to South Africa,” Mfantsipim headmaster J. K. A. Simpson said.

“These boys have made our school very proud, winning four crowns in the Sprite Ball Championship in seven years. That’s an incredible feat and we must do something to reward them. We want to fly the entire team to South Africa so they can also gain international exposure.

“I am therefore appealing to the Old Boys Association to support such a laudable idea. We are Mfantsipim and we always make things happen.”

The headmaster of TI Ahmadiyya, based in Kumasi, Alhaji Yakubu A.B. Abubakar can also count on Ghana’s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Alhassan as well as famous Ashanti Regional Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye amongst other affluent individuals in the West African country.

Mfanstipim delivered their fourth title in the famous championship after beating rivals Keta Senior High while Real Amass accounted for Aggrey Memorial in an epic final at the El-Wak stadium in January this year.
