From his very first dunk through to the final, it was obvious Ghanaian youngster Emmanuel Wolff had the realistic chance of winning the dunk contest during the 2015 Republic Bounz competition.
The former Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS) captain stunned the Republic Hall crowd and ran away with the ultimate prize, beating hugely touted Romeo Abban in an epic final.
For his first dunk, a perfect 50, Wolff tossed the ball up to himself from the arc, soared through the air and put the ball through his leg for a reverse.
Wolff’s second dunk seemed effortless and had every Ghanaian basketball player in the building on their feet.
Wolff caught the ball off a bounce and put it behind his back before finishing with the right hand. He seemingly never stopped rising toward the rim.
By the time he tossed the ball ahead, caught it with his right hand, went between his legs to his right and threw down a windmilling whipsaw on his first attempt of the night.
The youngster became the Republic Bounz Slam Dunk champion with a precocious, out-of-this-world display of athleticism and imagination at the Republic Hall last Friday night.
But the real truth is that Wolff was really only competing with himself all through the event with a gravity-challenging, pretzel-bending, how-does-he-do-that array that dropped jaws.
But the highly-rated player matched that 50 and then scored another with his second dunk by catching a high bounce and taking the ball behind his back before cupping it for a slam and owning the night.
