Repu Bounz.Still006

Tema Youth star Kwame Boamah has been reflecting on his performance in the famous Republic Bounz 3-on-3 competition.

In an exclusive interview with BASKETBALLghana.com, the former St Augustines College, now offering post graduate at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA),  recounts how he got involved in the big Repu Bounz.

“In 2008 there was this friend I had, Patrick who told me about this tournament (Repu Bounz) and so I formed a team with him and one other friend of ours,” he narrated

“Myself, Patrick and Richard Morgan formed a team and we went to Kumasi to participate in the competition.

“Patrick was the high flier. He used to do high jump and so he had the hops and anytime you have Patrick in the team; my God! You just have to throw the ball anywhere. Imagine Blake, when you have the ball and he’s on the free throw line, you can imagine.

“Richard too is another guy. He is like a stumbling block. He’s in the centre. You give him the ball, you just have to move the ball or just have to wait.

He talked about the atmosphere and says the girls turned the venue into frenzy.

“The whole placed was parked. We had Legon, Central, Ashesi, Pentecost and I mean all the top schools were there. Even the Senior High school students were there.

“The scene was amazing. The girls, the players, the era of Meme, Dodzie, Edwin and it was kind of awkward because we were about 17-18. We were young and fresh out of college. Most of us had the swag.

“Unfortunately we came short and we were kicked out in the semi-finals. But we went again in 2009 and we fortunate to be second.

“We went the following year in 2010 and we were second again. 2011 wasn’t good and we fell off a bit.

“In 2014, that was last year, we tried again and the atmosphere was something else.

“This year I hope to be there but unfortunately my players are not around so I’m looking for some talented players.

“The Repu Bounz adds more to your basketball CV and I’m looking forward to it.”
