The Eastern Region presents a blockbuster roaster for the 2015 Sprite Ball finals with intriguing perspectives.
Pope John Senior High and Junior Seminary, debutants Mpraeso and regulars Nkawkaw are the big fishes expected to carry the flag of the region aloft.
The major storyline is the failure of Koforidua Secondary Technical School to secure qualification after losing grounds to sworn rivals Pope John in an heated battle last month.
BASKETBALLghana.com takes a brief look at the trio ahead of the start of the championship on January 9-10 at the El-Wak Stadium.
Pope John Senior and Junior Seminary
They are one of the biggest schools in the region and the country at large and represent the stock of emerging talents at the schools level.
‘Pojoba’ put up a gallant display to steal the march off their bitter rivals Koforidua Secondary Technical School, winning the battle of qualification away from home.
The highly temperamental contest saw the visitors take a slim lead until it turned into a physical brawl between the two supporters to bring the game to a temporal end. The matter has however been resolved amicably but Pojoba wins the race to represent the region.
Fast forward and they are a formidable force in the region having placed second a number of occasions.
They are quarter-final specialists at the national level and will be expected to carry on their ambitions of winning the title.
Mpraeso Senior High
The debutant are one of the surprise packages in the 2015 finals.
Little is known about the Mpraeso-based school and their basketball exploits but could pull a fast one on those who underrate them.
They could follow in the footsteps of TI Amass, who won the title in the girls division in their debut season in January this year.
Perhaps we have to wait to unravel the hidden truth behind the side’s qualification. Great efforts.
Nkawkaw Senior High
Undoubtedly the most successful girls school in the Eastern Region, Kawsec are back again with high hopes.
They have remained the dominant figure in the girls division and represent the hope of the Eastern bloc ahead of the hugely anticipated encounter.
They are yet to make the knockout-phase at the national level but 2015 could be their year.
