The Volta Region is household name as far as basketball in Ghana is concern and schools that have represented the region have not disappointed generally.
Keta Senior, undoubtedly the biggest school in the region and classified as grade A school have been around and about.
The reigning champions have demonstrated one thing since they entered into the championship – determination, commitment and the never-say-die attitude will prove the catalyst for success.
Their final victory over Presbyterian Boys Senior High did not come on a silver platter and one that rekindled emotions having missed out on three previous occasions.
Ketasco have endeared themselves in the most prestigious basketball event for high schools in the West African country over the past four years since they entered the frame, but always leave with a sour mouth at the national final.
The side has remained impregnable in the Volta region where for four years, they have remained the kings of the game.
Arch-rivals Keta Business School (Ketabusco) have tried unsuccessfully to unseat them in the region but in the end the character and charade of their opponent has always reign supreme.
The team has always presented a strong squad full of depth and quality. Over the past five years, the school has managed to get to the finals of the competition and won many admirers in the long run.
As becoming a ritual, they qualified to the finals in 2013 with fine performances against Ghana Lebanon and Isamic School (GLISS) by beating them 47-42 at the quarter final stage before thrashing Prempeh College 33-17 at the semi-final stage with swash buckling performance on-set offensive display coupled with a resolute defensive network that made the Kumasi-based side looked ordinary on the court.evi
The likes of Aflakpu, Homey, Bliss, Kuenyedzie, Havor, John Teye, Osei Jay, Sedem Tet, Dela Flavior, Moses Ansah, Dovie and Quarshiga Richard were at their best and many thought their time to win the title had finally arrived.
The champions have the talent, experience and expertise in the Sprite Ball Championship and the huge favourite to retain their title.
They are without influential duo Sedem Tetevi and John Tei-Okumoh.
Sogakope Senior High
Not much can be said about Sogakope Senior High but their qualification at the expense of Mawuli Senior High makes them dangerous floaters.
They are making their debut at the national final after placing second to Keta Senior High in the boys division.
They have a young but inexperienced team hungry for success and will be among the dark horses of the competition.
Awudome Senior High
Great Awusco is the most dominant school in the Volta Region.
Despite their inability to win the national finals, Awudome Senior High have been irrepressible in the region.
They halted the dominance of Kadjebi-Asato, winning the title in 2010 at the Mawuko Girls Basketball court.
They are back in the finals again and will relish their chance of annexing the title for the first time.
