American coach Clifton Johnson has hailed the quality of basketball talents in Ghana and confident the 2014 edition of the Ghana Basketball and Leadership Camp will produce more.
About 100 boys and girls aged between 10-19 will converge at the Adisadel College in Cape Coast for the second edition of the prestigious tournament.
Last year’s event attracted over 50 participants with the number expected to be doubled this time around following an immense interest in the game among the youth in the African country.
A number of high profile coaches and scouts from America and Europe are expected to flood the venue to hunt for talents.
Campers selected could get an educational scholarship abroad with colleges ready to break the bank to develop their talents.
Coach Johnson participated in the maiden edition of the camp held at Penfield School in Accra and has flown to the West African country for the second time to help perfect their skills and understanding of the game.
He was impressed with the level of talents in Ghana and remains buoyant this year’s edition will be a blast.
“There is no doubt about the quality of the talents here in Ghana and that’s how come I have decided to come back to Ghana,” he said on Fast Break on TV3
“The players are ready to learn the basics and that’s key to their progress. Having worked with quite a number of them
“The difference between Lebron James and Koby Bryant and others is that they pay attention to little detail and that is a striking difference.
“People must understand that this session is to jus help the kids to learn the fundamentals of the game and nothing else.
“We are going there to perfect that and then we can look at a more advance basketball techniques.
“I am really looking forward to this year’s camp and hopeful that it will be a huge success.”
Other coaches including Emmanuel Quaye, Claudius Thompson and Alfred will take the kids through several basketball drills.
