The University of Cape Coast has constituted a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to supervise the organisation of the 23rd Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games to be hosted by UCC from 11th to 23rd June, this year.
The proposed LOC which has the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Nelson Buah as chairman paid a fact finding visit to inspect progress of work at the University of Cape Coast Sports Complex.
The Acting Head of the Sports Section of the University of Cape Coast, Mr. John Elvis Hagan who is also a member of the committee indicated that though the committee was not satisfied with the work done by the contractor, they were optimistic that the facility would be ready for the competition.
He said the contractor, had assured the LOC that work on the sports complex would be completed and handed over to the University authorities in May.
Coach Hagan disclosed that the LOC and other sub-committees would be inaugurated in a week’s time to enable them to officially carry out their duties. He stated that the members of the LOC as well as the sub-committees comprise technical and experienced individuals within and outside the University of Cape Coast stressing that “With the calibre of individuals appointed as members of the LOC, I am confident that the 23rd edition of the GUSA Games would be a success.”
Touching on the preparation of the UCC team for the competition, Coach Hagan noted that “As the defending champions of the GUSA Games, I can say with confidence that UCC will host and win the competition.”
It would be recalled that UCC won the 22nd GUSA Games held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2012.
