Rookie Gorgui Dieng was named the Western Conference rookie of the month of March.
The Senegalese Dieng, who replaced injured Nikola Pekovic, in the starting line-up of the Minnesota Timberwolves last month, came up with staggering performances, including five double-double showings in a six-game span.
The former Louisville Cardinals standout ranked fifth among Western Conference rookies in scoring (8.6 ppg) and second among all rookies in both rebounding (8.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (.613).
Dieng recorded a career-high 22 points, 21 rebounds – a record in the franchise history – on 20 March in a 129-106 loss to the Houston Rockets.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ Michael Carter-Williams was named the Eastern Conference rookie of the month.
